Baptist Seminary Ousts Association for Tolerating Homosexuality
By Elena Garcia|Christian Post Reporter
Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary has asked an association of churches to leave its Fort Worth, Texas, campus because the seminary says the group has a member church or churches that tolerate homosexuality.
A 1997 affiliation agreement between Tarrant Baptist Association and the seminary for use of an office building on the campus requires that the two organizations remain in "theological harmony."
The seminary, which is associated with the Southern Baptist Convention, contends that the association has violated the agreement for retaining fellowship with a church or churches that don't adhere to the denomination's position that homosexuality is a sin.
"The Baptist Faith and Message of 2000 has taken a clear stand against homosexual sin. They contend that Tarrant Baptist Association has member church(s) who don't stand in compliance with this statement," wrote the Rev. Al Meredith, moderator-elect of the association, in a Dec. 21 letter to the association's churches.
"They feel this places them in a contradictory situation," he added.
The Rev. Brent Beasley of Broadway Baptist Church in Fort Worth told the Dallas Morning News that his church is the one "being referred to."
The SBC voted in 2009 to sever ties with Broadway Baptist over its policy to welcome LGBT members. Last fall, the local church ended its 125-year-old affiliation with the General Baptist Convention of Texas rather then face a challenge over its policy at the annual convention.
Meredith's letter also laid out other grievances against the association.
The seminary also asserted that the association has not been helpful in job placements for professors and students in TBA member churches and stated that it needs more space for offices and a Welcome Center.
The association has 395 member churches, according to its website.
Meredith and two other associational representatives met with Seminary President Paige Patterson on Dec. 20 to discuss the situation, the Dallas Baptist Standard reported.
Patterson said he has learned of new information since the seminary asked the association to leave and agreed to discuss the matter further with the seminary's attorneys, Meredith told the paper.
The TBA moderator-elect has asked member churches to pray for Patterson and his team.
"Tarrant Baptist Association has had a long-standing fraternal relationship with Southwestern Seminary since their inception. We want to continue in this manner," stated Meredith's letter.
"They are not the Enemy," the letter continued. "The matters of the Kingdom are greater than those of either the Association or the Seminary."

THIS IS SO WRONG. WHERE IS IT WRITTEN THAT HOMOSEXUALITY IS A SIN. JESUS SAID NOTHING ABOUT IT AND THERE IS ONE SIGNIFICANT SAME SEX RELATIONSHIP IN THE OLD TESTAMENT (DAVID AND JONATHAN). I GET SO TIRED OF PEOPLE TWISTING THE BIBLE TO SATISFY THEIR OWN TWISTED NEEDS. I AM HETEROSEXUAL BY BIRTH AND I BELIEVE THAT THE SAME HOLDS TRUE FOR HOMOSEXUALS AND LESBIANS. IT IS THE WAY THAT GOD CREATED US.

Subject: Hi. I don't like your post.
So hi there, Duane! I saw your little post on the homosexuality page, and I'm very sorry, because I'm about to swear.
YOU DON'T KNOW FUCKING ANYTHING ABOUT IT
You are NOT homosexual therefore you are in NO position to state any facts!! I am only 15 years of age, and I recall having same sex "crushes" when I was in year 3, (aged 8). So even if I wasn't homosexual by birth, I was homosexual early enough to have no power to stop myself from becoming it, however I became it. Although I can tell you, it is NOT a choice. If it were a choice (sidenote, I'm a Christian and hate being this) I'd choose heterosexuality without a thought. And why WOULD anyone choose to be a homosexual? To straight males it's sick and disgusting, regardless of religion, so why would they choose that? Sorry for getting angry, but you have no right to state facts that aren't true. And I know what you are about to say: "Do not sleep with one man as you would as a woman, that is an abomination." But in the eyes of God, every sin is the same. If you see an attractive female walk past you, and you think sexual thoughts about her, you are being juuuust as bad as I or any homosexual is in the eyes of God.

YOUR RIGHT AND PRIVILEGE TO DISAGREE WITH WHAT I SAID. I SPENT 20 YEARS IN UNIFORM AND 27 YEARS SINCE THEN DEFENDING YOUR RIGHT TO SAY, WITHIN REASONABLE LIMITS, ANYTHING YOU WANT. BUT DON'T TELL THAT I DON'T KNOW WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT. AT 66 YEARS OF AGE I HAVE SEEN FAR MORE OF THIS SORRY OLD WORLD THAN YOU HAVE, OR PERHAPS EVER WILL.

WHERE DID I SAY IT WAS A CHOICE? WHAT FACTS DID I STATE THAT WEREN'T TRUE. YOU ARE SORRY BECAUSE YOU ARE ABOUT TO SWEAR? SO DON'T SWEAR. WHY CAN'T YOU BE CHRISTIAN AND HOMOSEXUAL?

"Do not sleep with one man as you would as a woman that is an abomination." DID GOD SAY THIS? OR JESUS CHRIST? OR DID A MERE MORTAL SAY IT THINKING HE KNEW THE MIND OF GOD?

SOUNDS TO ME THAT YOU NEED DO A LOT MORE LEARNING (THE GOOD LORD KNOWS THAT I DID AT AGE 15). AT 66 I STILL HAVE A LOT MORE TO LEARN. START BY GOING BACK AND READING THE ARTICLE THAT WAS BEING REFERENCED. DO YOU AGREE OR DISAGREE WITH THEIR STANCE? I DISAGREED AND FREELY ADMIT THAT IT TOOK ME A LONG TIME AND A LOT OF SERIOUS SOUL SEARCHING TO REACH THIS POINT.

GOOD OR BAD; BEAUTIFUL OR UGLY; WHITE, BLACK, PINK OR PURPLE; HETEROSEXUAL OR HOMOSEXUAL, WE ARE ALL CREATED IN GOD'S IMAGE. IT SAYS SO IN THE BIBLE. IT ALSO SAYS THAT JESUS WELCOMES US ALL INTO HIS KINGDOM.

MY PERSONAL BELIEF IS THAT WHAT TWO CONSENTING ADULTS DO IN THE PRIVACY OF THE BEDROOM IS NOBODY'S BUSINESS. AT AGE 15 I CAN SEE THAT THERE CAN BE PROBLEMS WITH SECULAR LAW (WHICH MUST BE OBEYED: RENDER ON TO CAESAR THAT WHICH IS CAESAR'S).

but you have no right to state facts that aren't true. I HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO STATE ANY THING I PLEASE, JUST AS YOU DO. AND I AM CAREFUL IN CHOOSING THE WORDS THAT I SAY.
